Half a force off a 5 star session!

I put a email out last night asking if anyone was up for a trip to Point Clear as the tide was good :) Then this morning I checked and saw that 3 Hurrells were going and the Landguard wind guage was showing 20 to 28 kts so decision made I loaded on the trailer, packed lunch and set off for Essex at 9.20 after dicovering Peter Cutts couldn't come, playing golf but local sailer Kieth Farmer would be there.

It wasn't looking promising as it was raining most of the way but luckily it stopped at Colchester:) On arriving I parked at the far carpark to find two Hurrells , Neil and Craig, Jason Powell and Keith Farmer, the tide was still low and the wind seemed very light:( We had a walk to the beach with the wind guage and it was only blowing 10/15 mph, as we had driven a long way we were going to sail come what may! I went with 8.5 on the 147, Neil rigged 7.5, Craig 8.2 and we leant Jason a 7m and a mast, while Keith decided to go home. I was first out on the water and wobbled across the bay before tacking and headed down river towards Brightlingsea, you could get planning in patches but  it was light, I tried the lagoon but not much water and even less wind:( I then had a look up the Colne right up the the firing range but again the wind was light but on reaching East Mersea the breeze had filled in a little and I managed to beat along the coast nearly to the open sea where it chopped up. I turned and broad reached 4 miles right up the Colne again planning most of the way:) With the tide now high there is a top section of flat water by the marshes which would be fantastic in a blow for some good speeds - might try and get up there next time the wind is stronger! It is a big wide river here and is full of birds, I even  spotted a seal:) It was slow going getting back and the wind was light again,  I tried the lagoon again as there had been six kiters there but struggled to get going so decided to call it a day and headed back to the van. Out for three hours, nice and mild and very nearly windy enough!
